-January 3, 2009
In only its third year of varsity competition, the Rockwall-Heath Wrestling Team captured its first ever Team Championship Saturday, January 3rd at the Plano West Senior High Invitational. The Hawk wrestling team finished the day with 5 Champions (Ryan Sauer-130, Austin Mike-Mayer-152, Alban Tomaj-160, A.J. Chapman-215, and Matt Gruner-HWT), 3 Runner-Ups (Chris Gruner-180, Adrian Algeribiya-189, and Brandon Holguin-HWT), 2 third place winners (Nakona Brawner-125 and Austin Mcpherson-140), and 3 fourth place finishers(Jacob Marsh-103 and Jacob
Black-112, and Nikola Topalovic-171). The Hawk Wrestling team finished with 191 team points, with the closest team behind them being Richardson with 145.5. Coach Seleznoff and Coach Holzbauer would like to congratulate all of their wrestlers on a great tournament. Also, this is the second straight tournament that Ryan Sauer and Austin Mike-Mayer captured an Individual
Championship.
Cedar Park Tournament, Austin TX
-December 19-20, 2008
The Rockwall-Heath Wrestling Team traveled down to Cedar Park, Texas for
the 4th Annual Hill Country Invitational, hosted by Vista Ridge High
School on December 19th and 20th. The team finished 5th out of 13 teams
and captured 5 individual medals. The individual place winners were as
follows: Ryan Sauer-130lb Champion, Austin Mike-Mayer-152lb Champion,
Alban Tomaj-160lbs 3rd, Chris Gruner-180lbs 3rd, and Austin
Mcpherson-140lbs 4th. Also, in winning their respective weight classes,
Ryan Sauer and Austin Mike-Mayer became the first two wrestlers in
Rockwall-Heath's short wrestling history to win an individual
championship at a tournament. Other Hawk Varsity Wrestlers competing
and earning team points were(by Weights): 103lbs-Jacob Marsh,
112lbs-Jacob Black, 119lbs-Tyler Gaddis, 125lbs-Nakona Brawner,
145lbs-Daniel Jackson, 171lbs-Nikola Topalovic, 189lbs-Adrian
Algeribiya, 215lbs-A.J. Chapman, and HWT-Matt Gruner and Brandon
Holguin.
Dallas Sunset Tournament
-November 21-22, 2008
Rockwall-Heath JV made a good showing with place winners being Tyler Gaddis 3rd, Jacob Black 4th, Alex Hess 2nd, and Spencer Eicher 2nd. Varsity hung in at a tough tournament with Ryan Sauer placing 4th. Team Results: (to come)
Arlington Invitational Tournament
-November 15, 2008
Rockwall-Heath Varsity attended their first tournament of the season Saturday, November 15th. While the rust from a long off-season is still evident, the wrestlers showed a lot of heart and promise. Congratulations to AJ Chapman for his team-leading 3rd place finish, and Austin Mike-Mayer and Ryan Sauer for their 4th place finishes. Great work and congrats to new Coach Holzbauer leading the team to some top finishes.
